The journey to either the Executive Mansion or National Legislature appears to be muddy and rocky for aspirants, proven by shocks and disbeliefs primaries conducted by various political parties including the ruling Unity Party have so far shown as crocodile tears begin to roll down the cheeks of defeated or manipulated hopefuls. The process which every political party had to go through to determine who runs on its ticket at poll has among other features, a towering feature common to almost all power seeking institutions; as Lewis Glay examines claims and counter-claims from different camps. |

With barely one week to the conduct of Liberia’s first post- conflict referendum, electorate seem to be placed in a state of agony by politicians and stakeholders who have diverse views about the process. Since the need to conduct the referendum was announced by the National Elections Commission (NEC) several months ago, some political parties including ordinary Liberians have described the exercise as untimely and unconstitutional, claiming that the process is intended to aid President Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf and her Unity Party in retaining state power. |
