Amidst speculations about who may become standard bearer of a political marriage between the opposition political parties of Cllr. Winston Tubman of the National Democratic Party of Liberia (NDPL) and Amb. George Weah of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), the football legend has broken silence, making his position clear on the issue therefore bringing an end to these speculations.

Speaking on a local radio station Tuesday, May 11, 2010, while in transit to Monrovia, the former world best footballer said, “I was been called upon by the Liberian people to be their leader, and I am supported strongly by people of the Congress for Democratic Change. I will not succumb to any candidate that does not have the number of supporters, and that my people have confidence in me; I am not turning back.” Amb. Weah also stressed that the dialogue between Cllr. Winston Tubman and him has not reached the level of deciding the standard bearer of their collaboration.
