A horrifying fire outbreak put people on their feet Tuesday night when residents of a house on Capitol Pass-bye were in tears as a six- month- old baby burnt to ashes while other valuable properties were destroyed.
The community where the incident happened is commonly known as Rock Spring Valley. The fire outbreak was reportedly due to a lighted candle that was kept in a room by the deceased mother identified as Nyonade Bodio who latter left the child asleep and went outdoor to sell cold water.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased (Joyce Nyangbe) death was due to carelessness on the part of her mother.
The house gutted by fire had seven rooms and the worth of materials destroyed is estimated at six thousand United States dollars and reports indicate that nothing was retrieved during the incident.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Chairman of the community, Joseph S. Kannah, Jr., he expressed regret over the incident.
He also said apart from the house that burned, other business centers in the premises were affected as well. Mr. Kannah thanked the Fire Service Agency for coming to the aid of the community, even though personnel of the agency came after the house was being consumed by the fire. Notwithstanding, their effort prevented other buildings from burning.
He called on the Liberian Government and other humanitarian organizations to assist victims of the fire outbreak.
Meanwhile, the deceased father, Christopher Nyangbe, is appealing for quick intervention, revealing that all that he had labored for over the years has been destroyed. Other victims expressed similar concern, hoping that well-meaning Liberians would come to their rescue.
Many fire outbreaks in Monrovia and its environs are usually blamed on the careless use of candle yet community dwellers seem not to be taking precautions to avoid fire disasters. |
