Four years back I had the opportunity to visit the China land. Representing Liberia through the Liberian Produce Marketing Corporation (LPMC) I was among several African delegates who attended a three-week seminar on “Grain Security”. The similar was intended to show African countries how food security is essential lifeblood as it relates to national stability, growth and development. The seminar was sponsored by the Agricultural Management Institute (AMI) in Beijing, the political capital city of China. Since three years my mind has refused to escape the recorded memories of the various sites we visited. The Great Wall, the Water Fall, the richest Farmers Village, the Olympics Stadium, the National Museum among several other places of historic importance, still have their cornerstones potentially planted in my mind. My previously structured imagination of the China land before leaving Monrovia saw its practical reality. I saw the wonders I had dreamed about. I saw the fruits of nationalism and meaningful vision that had crept in my mind. I saw the impressive foundation of the land laid by the founding members.

Dear President Sirleaf,

We, a group of concerned citizens of the Republic of Liberia, having heard from some officials of your government, as well as supporters of yours, the statement “Rome was not built in one day,” somehow as a defense for your government’s apparent failure or inability to carry out certain needed development projects, write to make a few comments in this direction.

1.0 Introduction
Government budgets are legislated projections of anticipated revenue and an outline of how such revenue should be expended towards the accomplishment of national goals. Encyclopedia Britannica notes that "the period covered by a budget is usually a year, known as a financial or fiscal year, which may or may not correspond with the calendar year."  According to Wikipedia, “budgets have… economic, political and technical basis...  [and] are not entirely designed to allocate scarce resources for the best economic use,...  [but to instead pursue] a political basis wherein different interests push and pull in an attempt to obtain benefits and avoid burdens.” This has been true in Liberia, even if the budget realization process was not anything to call home about. This was irrespective of the largely one-party First Republic, whether during the military dictatorship heralding the Second Republic, the war time Taylor era, or even in the post war democracy.

Our understanding of life, Lord, is feeble and alarmingly stumpy in almost all that we do as nation and people. We take life for a joke and would waste precious time on trivial matters that only contribute to the underdevelopment of our nation. We think in the reverse and fail to realize the importance of the free gifts you had given us in support of our social and economic lives.

It was a beautiful sunny Friday evening in downtown Monrovia on August 10, 2012 and sunshine seems unending even during the late part of the day.  Indeed, it was astonishing because August is one of the rainy months in Liberia.  So, for a young man without appropriate rain gears or facilities for locomotion, I began very much excited about the meteorological condition, because of its ensuing advantage.  From the soon-to-be dedicated Youth Exploring Solutions Headquarters in Nay Glay’s Town, Lower Johnsonville, Montserrado County; I unrelentingly maneuvered through gigantic traffic congestion along Somalia Drive and Bushrod Island and finally arrived on Broad Street – the epicenter and stoppage point for most taxi drivers.  The Street was full of many people roaming here and there in search of survival in the midst of abundant natural resources and a climatic condition favorable to agricultural activities.  Besides, peddlers and marketers comprising mostly of young people crowded the Street and impeded the movement of people and vehicles.  However, in the end, I managed to reach my ultimate destination on a motorcycle taking into consideration time factor and my eagerness to bid farewell to one of America’s finest and venerable pundits.
